Farewell Chris Amon

Sadly yesterday morning, one of New Zealand's motoring greats Chris Amon succumbed to his battle with cancer at the grand age of 73. Over the course of his life, Chris has done incredible things in the world of motorsport since his humble beginnings in an Austin A40 Special such as winning Le Mans in a MK2 GT40 in 1966 with Bruce Mclaren and competing in events like F1 and endurance car racing. Strangely though, he never won an F1 championship despite being an excellent and highly capable driver.

Chris retired from racing in 1977 to go back to farming but has still been around the motorsport scene. He was truly a New Zealand motorsport legend and an all round awesome guy. Chris will be sadly missed by everyone in the motorsport community across the globe.

Here's a short clip of Chris doing his thing at Le Mans in a GT40 tackling the Mulsanne straight at a ridiculous rate of speed.

Farewell Chris!!!
