Project Whizbox: No more rust!

Hooray! the Mini is sandblasted!

The Mini is now rust free and has come out in far better condition then we originally expected and still resembles a Mini. The Mini has been sprayed with primer and is ready to be painted once the body work has been finished.

The front floor is full of holes due to the car being left in the rain but after sandblasting, we were surprised that the whole front floor didn't drop out. We will either replace the front floor with reproduction replacement panels or spend ages making new panels.

We were also surprised that most of the boot was still intact as there is a lot of rust around the seams of the boot. As you can see in this photo, there is a huge gap in the wall between the back seat and the boot which will require a steel plate to be welded in. Also note that the battery box is non existent and will be easily fixed by just welding some steel plate in place. The engine bay was virtually rust free with a few little spots here and there.

Here's a couple of shots of the Mini loaded up on the trailer ready to be taken back to the workshop.

Here's the Mini back in the workshop, ready to be rebuilt into an awesome little car. I would like to say a big thank you to Pete Maka at Plateau sand & soda blasting for the awesome job he did with the Mini. If you are interested in having some sand or soda blasting work done, check out his website here.

Thanks for reading!!! Stay tuned for more updates on Project Whizbox.
