Amidst all the limiter bashing, tyre smoke and bogans of the inaugural round of the NZ Burnout Championship was a small but cool show 'n' shine, although many of the cars were coated in a light to heavy dusting of mud from Masterton Motorplex's notoriously bumpy driveway. Anyway, here is some shots of some of the neat cars that were on display.
This small selection of Skylines were nice to see on show, especially this incredibly rare Nissan Skyline R31 GTS Turbo that is very original apart from a custom exhaust. It's also for sale at $9,500, which seems pretty reasonable considering it's rarity these days.
Also in attendance was the awesome Datsun 240K that we last featured on the site.
This Subaru WRX STi appeared to be a pretty straight and tidy car and is rocking some cool aftermarket wheels and bodykit.
There aren't too many of these old Valiant station wagons around anymore.
This Datsun Sunny ute looked mint, rocking a custom metallic green paint job with black rims.
This pair of classics looked pretty sweet in contrasting colours, A bright blue Toyota Corolla KE30 and a nice red Mitsubishi L200.
This selection of Aussie muscle looked awesome and were quite tidy.
This was something different, a slammed classic Mercedes that appeared to be lowered on airbags.
Another cool old Valiant.
This Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 7 looked like it had been rallying in the WRC, a testament to how muddy the driveway to the drag strip/burnout pad.
Coming across this VL Commodore was a real surprise as there aren't many tidy examples like this one left, especially in the factory maroon colour and with period 5 spoke wheels. Notice the Mazda RX2 in the background as well?
Another car that was once common were these KE70 Toyota Corolla's. Unfortunately due to their rear wheel drive layout, many have been thrashed, crashed and abused and so any left in reasonable condition are always a good sight.
A personal favourite of mine is this immaculate example of a blue Ford Falcon XA. Just look at how straight it is!
If you were wondering why there is no coverage/footage of the burnouts and burnout cars, this was all you could see. This was taken from the parking paddock and it's still super smoky, being next to the burnout pad was like being blanketed in a cloud.
